JOHANNESBURG - More than 18,000 people have already been processed at the Lebombo border post in the last 24 hours.
Officials expect the busiest period to be around from 2pm on Thursday. The Border Management Authority (BMA) said proper planning with the N4 toll route has helped them prepare well for high traffic volumes.
Michael Masiapato, BMA Commissioner, said in the past 24 hours, authorities have processed over 18,900.

"That already starts to give you an impression that we are indeed entering into a festive period because those are the numbers that start to escalate when we get to this kind of period."
"The TREC N4, which manages the toll gate, is also able to give us the numbers as the people are coming through the N4 corridor."
Masiapato said new drone technology was also helping BMA teams detect and stop people trying to cross illegally.
