ActionSA slams Gana's election as chairperson

CAPE TOWN - ActionSA says it is not convinced Rise Mzansi's Magashule Gana is the best candidate for the Section 89 Impeachment Committee chairperson.

The party's Lerato Ngobeni said Gana was an "ANC co-opted individual".

"We didn't get the worst possible outcome, which would have been an ANC candidate. We got the second worst possible outcome, which is an ANC co-opted individual and an ANC co-opted organisation," Ngobeni said.

"The ANC was able to posture as if they are voting for somebody who is not within their ranks, but when we know that essentially that is exactly what is happening."

Ngobeni added that Gana was compromised as his party was in the government of national unity.

"He is very much deep rooted in the DNA. And then of course, his party Rise Mzansi is part of the GNU. And we knew that, possibly in the background, the horse trading that was happening was that the ANC were eventually cashing in on their dishing out of positions in the different legislatures."

The ANC, DA and other GNU members voted in favour of the Rise Mzansi MP over Wonderboy Mahlatsi from the United Africans Transformation party.

Meanwhile, uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party said it was  disappointed with Makashule Gana's election as chairperson.

''There is a reason we don't support Gana. Rise Mzansi is a project of the ANC. In the last 2 years in parliament, Gana has never spoken against the ANC, we want our voters to get to the bottom of what happened, you can see everything was arranged before hand," said John Hlophe, MKP parliamentary leader.
