AGU members to appeal bail decision

CAPE TOWN - The case against members of the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit has been postponed to 5 March.

They're facing charges for murder, assault, kidnapping, torture, and defeating the ends of justice.

They were arrested following the death of alleged gangster Wade Price and the kidnapping and assault of Price's fellow gang members last December.

But their lawyers will be heading to the Western Cape High Court on Friday to appeal against the magistrate’s decision.

The state previously argued that there were no exceptional circumstances and that it is not in the interest of justice for them to be released on bail.

Meanwhile, tempers flared outside the court as supporters of the AGU members and Wade Price clashed.

Sandra Price says she and her teenage daughter have yet to come to terms with her husband’s death.

“Because they killed my husband, and on my birthday,  why must they get bail?

"The people who have to protect us killed my husband. Why? So they mustn’t get bail,” she said.

Police had their hands full keeping the opposing protesters apart.
