DURBAN - A 36-year-old man was arrested in Ncotshane, Nongoma, on Sunday in connection with the alleged rape of 14 women across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
Police say the suspect allegedly began his rape spree in 2010 in Mhlabathini. He was arrested but later released on bail.
He subsequently absconded from court, prompting the issuing of a warrant for his arrest.
While out on bail, he allegedly raped seven women in Pongola, four in Primrose and Germiston, and one woman each in the Paulpietersburg and Magudu policing precincts.
According to police, the suspect targeted women who were home alone.
He allegedly broke into their homes through windows or doors before threatening them with knives and raping them.
He is expected to appear in the Mahlabathini Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with his 2010 failure to appear in court.
He will then face formal charges relating to the other 13 alleged rapes.
