ANC calls for suspension of Tshwane CFO

PRETORIA – The ANC in Tshwane says the city's leaders are milking the capital dry.

It says corruption has infiltrated every part of the administration.

The party says graft is rampant from the City Manager's office to the Metro Police.

It says it will not allow the rot to get worse. The party is calling for the immediate suspension of City of Tshwane Chief Financial Officer Gareth Mnisi.

At a media briefing on Tuesday, the party accused Mnisi of influencing the awarding of contracts. It claims to have proof of tender fraud, financial mismanagement and corruption.

It called for the City’s council to hold an urgent sitting to discuss the issue.

ANC Tshwane co-ordinator, George Matjila, said, among others, the corruption was in relation to security and toilet tenders in the City.

He said they have uncovered a lot of irregularities and will be presenting the evidence to the various stakeholders.

“Contracts are delayed because favours are done for certain people who don’t qualify. When you do favours for certain people, it will affect service delivery. The executive and city manager have the authority to suspend him,” Matjila said.

He said the city manager was aware of the issue they had raised.

“The problems that are here in the city are affecting our wards. We want all these things to be presented to council so the CFO can be suspended with immediate effect.”
