BLOEMFONTEIN - The Electoral Court is set to hear the ANC’s application against the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) on Tuesday.
At the heart of the dispute are the party’s candidate list submissions for six municipalities.
The ANC is challenging the IEC’s decision to exclude its candidates, arguing that it did not miss the submission deadline.
Instead, the party says technical glitches in the IEC’s electronic system prevented its submissions from being finalised on time.
But the IEC has rejected that explanation.
In its response, the electoral body says the ANC was still making changes to its candidate lists just minutes before the deadline and that its system was operational.
The legal battle comes as the IEC presses ahead with the electoral timetable.
Despite the court challenge, the commission is expected to publish the final list of candidates on Wednesday.
