JOHANNESBURG - Authorities in Gauteng are on high alert amid a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms to hit parts of the province.
Disaster management teams are expected to monitor weather updates and incidents as well as check the availability of emergency resources.
Additionally, they are expected to pay attention to flood-prone roads, low-lying settlements, bridges and stormwater systems.
The Gauteng Provincial Disaster Management Centre has since called for caution following heavy rains across Gauteng.

The South African Weather Service warns of heavy downpours, strong damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning in the province alongside parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
Localised flooding is also possible, particularly on roads, in low-lying areas and near bridges.
A separate warning for damaging winds is also in place along parts of the Eastern Cape coast, which could disrupt beach activities and make navigation difficult.
