City promises clean water for Hammanskraal by next week

PRETORIA - Clean, drinkable water is expected to flow from the taps in parts of Hammanskraal by next week, as promised.

That’s the assurance from the City of Tshwane, despite a string of setbacks.

A leak at one of the key reservoirs has left several areas dry for nearly a month.

And recent contamination from a nearby water treatment plant has deepened frustrations.

The Water and Sanitation Minister says 12.5 megalitres of water is already being pumped into the system to flush the pipes ahead of the supply being restored.

Officials are conducting an oversight visit at Hartebeeshoek Reservoir in Akasia.

But tensions on the ground remain high.
