Colleen Makhubele steps down as MK Party MP

JOHANNESBURG – Colleen Makhubele has resigned as Member of Parliament representing the MK Party.

In her statement on Monday, Makhubele thanked party leader Jacob Zuma and reflected on the privilege of serving in the seventh democratic administration, citing Parliament’s role in shaping democracy and honouring the legacy of anti-apartheid leaders.

She steps away from her parliamentary duties on 28 February.

She says she is stepping down in the interest of the MKP caucus.

Makhubele, who was ousted as the party’s chief whip in January, emphasised her continued commitment to nation building, African unity and uplifting marginalised communities.

Makhubele said she will serve the country in a different capacity outside of Parliament.
