Court rejects Mabuyane bid to silence Malema

GQEBERHA - The Eastern Cape High Court has dismissed Premier Oscar Mabuyane's urgent court application stopping EFF leader Julius Malema from making defamatory statements about his qualifications.

Mabuyane wanted the court to have Malema’s claims that he stole a master’s degree from the University of Fort Hare declared unlawful and false.

Malema made the remarks earlier this year while addressing EFF supporters outside the KuGompo Magistrate’s Court, alleging that Mabuyane had “stolen” his master’s degree.

Mabuyane approached the court after demanding a retraction and apology from Malema.

He wanted the statements declared defamatory and sought an order preventing Malema from repeating claims that he obtained his degree fraudulently.

While Mabuyane’s legal team is still studying the judgment, the EFF has welcomed the ruling, describing it as a vindication of Malema and his decision to expose alleged wrongdoing at the University of Fort Hare.
