Court sets date to sentence Kelly Smith, fellow convicts

CAPE TOWN - Kelly Smith, Jacqen Appolis and Steven Van Rhyn are expected to be sentenced on 29 May.

They were convicted of kidnapping and trafficking Joshlin Smith over a year ago.

Sentencing procedures will begin on 27 May with arguments in mitigation and aggravation.

Judge Nathan Erasmus ordered that the three accused be detained in custody until Friday, 23 May for the purposes of consultation with the defence council, work to be done by social workers for the report and final appearances in the matter.

He said that when the accused appear before the court on 23 May, he would then postpone the matter to 27 May, where evidence will be presented and arguments will happen. 

Erasmus said, subject to confirmation, the matter returns to Saldanha Bay.
