Crackdown continues at Lebombo Border Post

KOMATIPOORT - Law enforcement authorities vow to keep border security tight at the Lebombo Border Post, the country's second-busiest port of entry.

More than a thousand Mozambican nationals have already been repatriated, with officials expecting those numbers to rise.

With the unofficial 30 June deadline past, the crackdown on illegal immigration continues.

But officials admit corruption within the system remains one of the biggest challenges to securing the country's borders.

Police Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale visited the border on Wednesday to assess ongoing operations.

Six people have also been arrested in connection with the June 30 protests in Mpumalanga and with anti-migrant demonstrations showing no signs of easing, authorities insist they remain on high alert and are prepared for any eventuality.
