Crime Intelligence boss, Dumisani Khumalo, next in Madlanga Commission hot seat

PRETORIA – Crime Intelligence boss, Dumisani Khumalo, is set to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Monday.

Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, confirmed this moments before adjourning the inquiry on Friday.

Khumalo’s much-awaited testimony follows KZN Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s, allegations.

Mkhwanazi accused former Police Minister, Bheki Cele, of trying to force Khumalo to leave the SAPS.

Mkhwanazi also told the commission that attempts to disband the KZN Political Killings Task Team was actually a smokescreen and the real target was the Gauteng Counter-Intelligence Unit Khumalo headed.

Khumalo, along with six others, were arrested in June on charges of fraud and corruption related to the appointment of an ‘unqualified civilian’ to a senior post within the SAPS.

The person has since been identified as Dineo Mokwele.

Mkhwanazi says the Magistrate granting five of the accused bail and Khumalo’s bail with questionable conditions is proof of attempts to weaken the unit.
