Madlanga Commission | ANC expects Mchunu and Cele to cooperate

JOHANNESBUrG - The ANC says it expects senior party members to fully cooperate with the Madlanga Commission if summoned. 

The commission, investigating corruption allegations within the criminal justice system, kicks off on Wednesday.

ANC NEC members, Senzo Mchunu and Bheki Cele are among the top names expected to be summoned following allegations of corruption and interference.

"All that we're calling for is for the full might of the law to be served on any individual regardless of who they are. The commission will subpoena people and we expect that any of our members that are subpoenad or have to make representations or are invited ... that they'll do so. Cde Senzo and cde Bheki when called upon we expect them to show up and assist the commission in terms of its mandate."

On 6 July 2025, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, delivered a bombshell press conference accusing Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, Deputy Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, and others of dismantling an investigative task team probing politically sensitive killings. 

He also alleged involvement in a criminal syndicate encompassing politicians, judiciary members, and business interests.
