Cronje: I left NPA because I was frustrated

JOHANNESBURG - Former head of the then Investigating Directorate (ID), Adv. Hermione Cronje says she struggled with the NPA management team.

Cronje is hoping to return, this time as its head.

Current head Shamila Batohi's term comes to an end in January.

Cronje says her departure from the NPA in 2021 was not because she did not have stamina, but it was because she was frustrated.

"I was pretty clear that if I remained in the NPA, I would probably be arrested on charges of irregular expenditure because I was frustrated."

She maintained that even though she had not been a part of the prosecution authority, she still played a role outside of the department.

"I never left NPA to abandon the NPA, I've left the NPA and have gone elsewhere, and I have continued to work for the NPA," she says.

Her departure brought a lot of heat in 2021, which saw Batohi having to assure the nation that the authority was not in crisis following the resignation.
