JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has laid a criminal complaint against Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane. The party is accusing her of misleading Parliament regarding appointments to the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) boards.
At the centre of the DA's action is the Minister’s claim that an independent board of experts was responsible for SETA board appointments.
Addressing the media outside a Cape Town Police Station, Zille noted that six of the so-called independent experts on the SETA Board selection panel were employees in her department. She further noted that several appointees were ANC cadres.
While Nkabane has since withdrawn the selection list, Zille slammed the minister for misleading and lying to Parliament.
The DA Federal Chairperson further criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa, accusing him of double standards in government.
"The President had no problem axing the DA’s Andrew Whitfield for an unauthorised overseas trip, a harsh punishment, but when it comes to corruption, nothing is done", she added.
"Ramaphosa refuses to be as good as his word and act against corruption, as well as criminality in our parliament. Those actions go unchecked, whereas Ramaphosa perceives it as a slight", she said.
eNCA has sent the minister an enquiry regarding this matter, but has not responded in time for publication.
Their comment will be added once received.
