UPDATE: Vaal crash driver charged with 14 counts of murder

JOHANNESBURG - The taxi driver involved in the deadly Vanderbijlpark scholar transport crash has abandoned his bail bid.

He has been charged with 14 counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, one count of driving without a valid Professional Driving Permit and one count of driving an unlicensed motor vehicle.

Twelve pupils were killed in the collision on Monday, while two other pupils succumbed to their injuries on Thursday.

The 22-year-old driver was arrested after being discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.

Authorities say investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

The matter has been postponed to 5 March.

Meanwhile, transport officials will release the preliminary report on the crash.
