Driver rescued from wrecked minibus after deadly crash

DURBAN - The driver of the taxi involved in a deadly crash just south of Durban has been rescued and taken to the hospital after being entrapped in the minibus taxi with critical injuries. 

At least 11 people have died after a truck and a minibus taxi collided on the R102 in the Lotus Park area on Thursday.

It is reported that among those who have died is a school pupil.

Efforts are now underway to clear the scene and remove the minibus taxi, which is pinned against a tree and held in place by the truck. 

Earlier, ALS Paramedics spokesperson Gareth Jamieson said the eThekwini Fire Department had to extricate the deceased to get to those who are still alive.

The two passengers who were in front were entrapped in the minibus.
