JOHANNESBURG - Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) deputy chief Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi has been suspended.
Mkhwanazi is said to have approved the fitting of blue lights to Vusimusi 'Cat' Matlala’s private vehicles.
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and Parliament's SAPS ad hoc committee probing corruption allegations have been running in parallel.
Witness testimonies before both the Madlanga Commission and Parliament have revealed the depth of corruption and the infiltration of organised crime, allegedly linked to the so-called 'Big Five' cartel of which Matlala is an alleged member.
Matlala remains behind bars.
