EMPD described as ‘a place of destruction’ at Madlanga Commission

PRETORIA - The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department has suspended acting chief Julius Mkhwanazi.

He's been implicated at the Madlanga Commission and accused of theft and covering up a murder.

Former EMPD deputy chief Revo Spies says the metro's police department is a criminal enterprise.

Spies has completed his three-day testimony before the Madlanga Commission.

He revealed to the commission the rot inside the EMPD, saying over 200 police officials had criminal records.

He also told the commission that officers from the Specialised Services Unit, now known as EMPD SWAT, led by Mkhwanazi, refused to be vetted.
