Feroz Khan in undisclosed location after being discharged from hospital

JOHANNESBURG - After having spent over three weeks in the hospital, suspended crime intelligence deputy boss Feroz Khan has been discharged.

Khan has since been taken to an undisclosed location for intensive rehabilitation

This was revealed in a statement by his family on Friday.

According to the statement, the family said Khan needs a period of "recovery, rehabilitation and rest and that his family has implemented comprehensive and strict security measures."

This is to ensure his safety, the family said.

Khan was shot last month in Houghton, Johannesburg.

The motive for the incident is still unknown.

This saw him unable to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

In the statement issued, the family said this period of recovery would be used to see if Khan will be able to testify before the commission.

“This period will also be used to determine Major General Khan’s ability to assist the Madlanga Commission prior to its published extended deadline, whether in person or by way of affidavit…” the statement read.

The family further criticised the manner in which police handled investigations into his shooting, citing that there has been no communication by authorities to date.

“No investigative progress or feedback has been communicated. Repeated attempts had been made to the Provincial Head of Detectives and the assigned investigating officer. Neither has reverted on the issues formally raised with respective offices,”the statement read.

Outside of the Madlanga Commission, Khan, alongside Gauteng Hawks boss, Ebrahim Kadwa, are before the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court.

Khan was arrested in May for allegedly being involved in an illicit precious metals syndicate case.

He is currently out on R20,000 bail.
