PRETORIA - Suspended police general Feroz Khan’s testimony before the Madlanga Commission has been postponed to 28 September after he failed to appear for his scheduled hearing.
Khan was expected to testify on Tuesday, but his legal team informed the commission that he was medically unfit to attend.
The commission has since ordered Khan to undergo an independent medical assessment to establish whether he is fit to testify.
The order follows scrutiny of medical certificates submitted on Khan’s behalf, including an allegation that one of the certificates had been backdated.
Khan has been given until next Tuesday to undergo the assessment, with the independent medical report due to the commission by 15 September.
The suspended general is also expected to challenge a recent Labour Court ruling that allows the South African Police Service to proceed with disciplinary proceedings against him.
The disciplinary process includes a recommendation that Khan be dismissed.
