Fikile Mbalula: 'Nobody will remove the president without us'

CAPE TOWN - The ANC says it won't be bullied into turning against President Cyril Ramaphosa as the Phala Phala saga rages on.

Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says efforts to remove Ramaphosa from office are doomed to fail.

He was speaking ahead of Wednesday's ANC NEC meeting to discuss the matter, where Ramaphosa was recused.

Mbalula said nobody will remove Ramaphosa without the vote of the ANC.

“If somebody comes with a motion of no confidence, you need 50 percent plus one. And then when you want to remove the president, you need two-thirds majority. Nobody will remove the president here... without us, if they come with impeachment," Mbalula said.

He said the ANC was being blackmailed to subvert and ignore the processes that need to be followed

"It's not possible that when you put impeachment on the table on the president they will win. The ANC will not cajoled or be bullied in this process. We will talk as we do with everybody whenever the need arises to do so.”
