Impeachment panel takes shape

CAPE TOWN - Political parties have until Friday to submit the names of MPs who will make up Parliament’s impeachment committee.

The Committee will revisit the Section 89 independent panel report on the Phala Phala farm theft, which the President is taking on review.

National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza says the 31-member committee will include representatives from all 16 parties in Parliament, balancing proportional representation with inclusivity.

The ANC, as the biggest party, will have nine seats.

The DA will have five, MK Party three and the EFF two.

These are the four biggest parties represented in parliament.

The remaining others will be given a seat each.

To remove the president from office, a two thirds majority vote is needed in the National Assembly.
