Firefighters gain upper hand as Mossel Bay wildfire burns 23km²

MOSSEL BAY - Firefighters in Mossel Bay have made significant progress in extinguishing a wildfire raging since Monday.

They are now engaged in mop-up operations and monitoring for flare-ups.

Eskom crews are also on site to repair damaged power infrastructure.

The blaze destroyed homes and displaced families in Vakansieplaas.

The fire has scorched over 23 square kilometres of land.

Residents recall frantic scenes as firefighters battled blazes in town earlier this week.

Authorities say no further structural or property losses have been reported since Tuesday.

And despite the fire scorching large stretches of vegetation, no lives have been lost. SOQ))
