Firefighters smother flare-ups in Mossel Bay

MOSSEL BAY - Mossel Bay firefighters battled late into the night as strong winds whipped up a blaze near Hartenbosheuwels.

The strong winds and growing fire prompted the precautionary evacuation of the Hartenbos Animal Hospital.

Nearly 2,000 hectares have burned since Monday.

Crews remain on high alert, tackling flare-ups as they arise.

Homes in Island View, Vakansieplass, and Aalwynda have been affected.

No deaths have been reported yet as authorities assess the fire damage.
