KUGOMPO CITY - Forty-nine years after his death, the inquest into the murder of anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko is set to begin.
The first witness is expected to take the stand on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Judge Isaac Madondo dismissed an application by the Biko family for a postponement.
The family raised concerns about thousands of documents that still needed to be scrutinised in preparation for the inquest.
Some of the documents also needed to be translated from Afrikaans.
Biko died on 12 September 1977, while in the custody of apartheid security forces.
Despite several investigations over the years, no one has ever been held criminally liable for his death.
