This follows a search at his Centurion home in July, where investigators also seized documents and electronic devices.

These are linked to the investigation into the murder of Lieutenant-General Sindile Mfazi.

The former general left the police service in 2009 and is charged under the Firearms Control Act.

Mfazi was initially reported to have died from COVID-19 complications, but investigators now say there are suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Previously, National Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe indicated that Mfazi's family, who raised the alarm over his death, approached the then National Commissioner, who then instructed the SAPS Cold Case Unit to look into particular allegations.

Mathe confirmed that Mfazi's body was exhumed, examinations were conducted and it was confirmed that a poisonous substance was found in his body.
