EKURHULENI - Gauteng Education is appointing an independent law firm to investigate the death of a Grade 3 Alberview Primary School pupil.
Two weeks ago, the Mapheelle family’s world was thrown into darkness.
Their eight-year-old boy went to school and died in hospital hours later following a playground accident.
Now that the initial shock of Larona Mapheelle’s death has worn off, his family is searching for answers.
A goalpost at Alberview Primary School in Alberton is believed to have fallen on the eight-year-old while he was playing with friends.

The family says what they were told by the school and what they heard from doctors who attended to the Grade three pupil don’t match up.
The family doesn’t believe it was simply an unfortunate schoolground accident.
There are also claims that it’s not the first time these goalposts fell on a pupil.
The Gauteng Education Department would not answer specific concerns raised by the family, but has confirmed an independent investigation is being launched.
The family says it has given the school until the end of August for answers.
The department says it will soon finalise the makeup of the investigation team, its terms of reference and deadline.
