JOHANNESBURG - Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube says striving for equality in the education system allows for better outcomes for learners' futures.
"If education is to be an equaliser of opportunity, an equal education is needed at the start of their journey," she said.

She highlighted the ability to read for meaning and count confidently.
Gwarrube announced the country's 88 percent 2025 pass mark, which is high from last year's 87.3 percent.
Despit this at the end of the day, it was about those who had worked for more than a decade to reach this milestone.
Looking ahead, Gwarube said her department will prioritise support for pupils in Grades 10 to 12 to curb the worrying trend of school dropouts.
