JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance is calling on the Ekurhuleni Metro to fast-track the disciplinary hearing of suspended Deputy EMPD Chief Julius Mkhwanazi.
The party says it is unfair that Mkhwanazi continues to receive a salary while he has been on suspension for over six months.
Mkhwanazi is facing multiple charges, including murder, fraud, corruption and the theft of precious stones.
"According to the local government regulations for senior management, it stipulates clearly that all the disciplinary processes must be handled within the shortest time period," said Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, DA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate.
"The regulations says between three to five months, which is now over 8 months. He [Mkhwanazi] is a huge embarrassment to Ekurhuleni, yet he is still currently getting paid. We believe he doesn't belong in public office; he must be held accountable."
