IEC declares revote in Douglas

JOHANNESBURG - Residents in Douglas in the Northern Cape will have to head to the polls again.

Political parties allegedly stormed the station and destroyed ballot papers before they could be counted.

The previous results have been withheld while the IEC says the revote will be done as soon as possible.

The Commission's Chairperson, Mosotho Moepya, revealed this during the announcement of this year’s results on Sunday evening.

‘Section 10 of the Local Government Electoral Act provides that if ballot papers in an election at a voting station are lost, destroyed, or unlawfully removed as this was before votes cast at the station are counted, the commission may allow a revote at that station on a date to be determined by the commission'.

Moepya said they would indicate when the revote will be conducted.
