DURBAN - The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has named Mkhuleko Hlengwa as its mayoral candidate for eThekwini ahead of the November 4 local government elections.
The announcement was made on Monday, with IFP president Velenkosini Hlabisa saying he was confident in Hlengwa’s experience, energy and understanding of public administration.
Hlengwa is the party’s national spokesperson and the deputy minister of transport.
“His experience, energy and understanding of public administration will position him to lead our campaign to restore effective, accountable and people-centred governance in eThekwini,” Hlabisa said.

KwaZulu-Natal taxi boss and businessman Sizwe "Mavava" Sikhakhane was announced as the party’s deputy mayoral candidate.
The IFP has also submitted its list of candidates for the local government elections, increasing the number it is fielding by more than 600 compared with the 2021 polls.
The party said it was making the necessary preparations to comply with existing electoral deadlines.
