JOHANNESBURG - Eight employees of the Emfuleni Local Municipality are expected to appear in court on Monday as investigators intensify a probe into alleged electricity theft and illegal connections.
The employees face charges including theft of critical infrastructure and money laundering, in connection with allegations that they facilitated illegal electricity connections.
The case forms part of a wider investigation by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team, which is probing allegations of corruption linked to the municipality.
In a separate case, a 40-year-old supplier is also expected to appear in court over a R16-million fleet tender awarded by Emfuleni Municipality.
According to the investigation, the municipality paid for 18 vehicles, but only seven were delivered.
The two cases form part of broader investigations into alleged corruption and criminal activity linked to municipal operations.
