JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water has warned of possible water contamination in Bezuidenhout Valley following repairs to a damaged pipeline.
The pipeline was repaired on Wednesday after a tree stump fell onto it during excavation work by a contractor replacing a sewer pipe.
The bulk water supplier said it was collecting water samples for laboratory testing to ensure the water met the required quality standards.
Residents have been advised not to use the water until further notice.

“An alternative water supply will continue to be provided while restrictions remain in place. Johannesburg Water will notify affected customers once laboratory tests have confirmed that the water meets the required quality standards and normal water supply can safely resume,” it said.
The affected areas include 8th Avenue and the intersections of 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th streets.
