JOHANNESBURG - Suspended EMPD deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi and his five co-accused are back in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where they are seeking bail.
The six face charges of murder, robbery and defeating the ends of justice in connection with the April 2022 killing of Emmanuel Mbense.
During the bail proceedings, the defence is challenging the quality of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) investigation, raising questions about how evidence was gathered and handled.
The State is expected to oppose the bail application.
