JOHANNESBURG - Suspended deputy EMPD chief Julius Mkhwanazi and his five co-accused are back in the Brakpan magistrate’s court on Friday.
They are seeking bail in connection with the 2022 murder of Emmanuel Mbense.
Mbense’s body was discovered in a dam in Nigel after he was allegedly assaulted and killed.
Mkhwanazi and the five others face charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and defeating the ends of justice.

During the bail proceedings, Mkhwanazi’s defence argued that he was not present when Mbense was allegedly assaulted and killed.
Mbense had been accused by police of stealing copper before his death.
The court is now considering the circumstances surrounding the case as the six accused fight to be released on bail.
