Julius Mkhwanazi, Kagiso Lerutla back in court for fraud case

JOHANNESBURG - Axed Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi and Ekurhuleni city manager Kagiso Lerutla are expected back in court for fraud and corruption charges.

The pair are accused of allegedly arranging for someone to impersonate Lerutla during court proceedings.

According to the State, Lerutla allegedly paid R400,000 to Mkhwanazi and the individual who reportedly posed as him.

The allegations stem from a case dating back to 2019, when Lerutla was arrested for speeding.

The last court appearance was delayed after the State failed to arrange Mkhwanazi's transportation from Boksburg Prison to court on time.

Both accused are currently out on bail of R30,000 each.
