PRETORIA - The State is expected to respond to Mthokoziseni Maphisa’s bid to have charges dropped in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
Maphisa has applied for a Section 174 discharge.
He argues the State has failed to link him to the alleged plot to kill the soccer star.
His lawyer also claims a key witness is biased.
The four other accused in the trial have withdrawn their own discharge applications.
Meyiwa was shot dead at the home of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in 2014.
The State maintains it was a premeditated hit, allegedly orchestrated by Khumalo.
Maphisa is currently serving time for an unrelated offence.
