KZN Hawks boss Leseja Senona challenges suspension

JOHANNESBURG - Embattled KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Leseja Senona is challenging his suspension.

In a five-page letter written to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), his lawyers say disciplinary proceedings against Senona are unlawful and unfair.

The lawyers further argue that the mention of his name in the Madlanga Commission is not enough grounds for suspension. They maintain that the DPCI failed to hold a disciplinary hearing within the required 60-day period.

Senona is accused of sharing sensitive information with alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala.

He was suspended on 5 March by pending a disciplinary inquiry following investigations into security protocol breaches and missing evidence.

Earlier this month, the top cop requested a postponement of his testimony before the Madlanga Commission after his legal team raised procedural concerns and cited difficulties accessing his office documents following his suspension.

He is expected to return to the Commission on 1 June.
