LIVE | Frank Chikane testifies before TRC cases inquiry

JOHANNESBURG - The poisoning of anti-apartheid activist Reverend Frank Chikane is set to take centre stage at the TRC cases inquiry on Tuesday.

Chikane is expected to give testimony as the inquiry continues its probe into interference and delayed prosecutions of apartheid-era crimes.

He served as director-general in the Presidency under former president Thabo Mbeki and was also secretary of Cabinet.

In 1989, he survived poisoning by apartheid state operatives while serving as the general secretary of the South African Council of Churches.

Earlier this year, the commission heard allegations that police used “dirty tricks” to prevent prosecutions linked to poisoning of anti-apartheid activists.
