LIVESTREAM | Madlanga Commission resumes

PRETORIA - After almost a week’s break, the Madlanga Commission resumes its public hearings on Monday, with the spotlight shifting to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD).

The commission will examine allegations that criminal networks have infiltrated the metro police force and claims of the alleged capture of the JMPD.

Among those expected to testify is JMPD supervisor Johannes Mokgatle.

Mokgatle is expected to face questions about his movements during a raid at businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe’s home in Sandhurst.

According to allegations before the commission, Mokgatle called in sick on the day of the raid but allegedly used an official vehicle to travel to Molefe’s residence.

He is further accused of confronting police officers at the scene and attempting to disrupt Molefe’s arrest.

Mokgatle was subsequently suspended from active duty in the JMPD K9 Unit, pending further investigations.

His testimony could shed light on what happened during the operation and whether there were attempts to interfere with Molefe’s arrest.
