LIVESTREAM | Mapisa-Nqakula back in witness box as corruption trial continues

JOHANNESBURG - Former Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is back on the witness stand as her corruption and money-laundering trial continues in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

On Monday, the court dismissed her application to have the charges against her withdrawn.

Mapisa-Nqakula faces 12 counts of corruption and one count of money laundering, stemming from allegations that she solicited and received millions of rand in bribes while serving as Defence Minister.

She took the stand on Monday to give her version of events and denied allegations that she agreed with defence contractor Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu to use coded language to conceal alleged bribe payments.

However, Mapisa-Nqakula has acknowledged meeting the State’s key witness three times in 2017.

She maintains that the meetings were purely social and insists that money was never discussed.
