LIVESTREAM | Mbeki, Mbandla seek to join apartheid crimes lawsuit

JOHANNESBURG - Former President Thabo Mbeki and his Justice Minister Brigitte Mabandla are heading to court.

They seek to intervene in a landmark case involving constitutional damages for apartheid-era crimes.

A total of 25 survivors and families of victims who were disappeared or killed during apartheid are suing government.

They claim cases referred for prosecution by the TRC were delayed due to political interference.

Mbeki and Mabandla want to intervene after former NPA head, Vusi Pikoli, blamed them for the interference.

The families, supported by the Foundation for Human Rights, are demanding R167-million in damages.
