LIVESTREAM | Sibiya back in court as he seeks bail

JOHANNESBURG - Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection Shadrack Sibiya is back in the Randburg Magistrate's Court for his bail hearing.

Sibiya faces three counts of sexual grooming involving a 16-year-old girl, as well as charges of human trafficking and rape.

According to the allegations, Sibiya plied an 18-year-old woman with alcohol before she allegedly lost consciousness and was raped at a hotel in Sandton.

Sibiya denies the rape allegation, maintaining that the encounter was consensual.

The senior police officer is also facing internal SAPS disciplinary proceedings over alleged links to criminal networks.

His disciplinary hearing was postponed to 12 October, giving Sibiya additional time to consult with his legal team.

Sibiya remains in custody at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre.
