Madlanga Commission continues to probe drug busts

PRETORIA - The Madlanga Commission continues to hear testimony on the handling of major drug busts by police.

On Tuesday, the commission heard allegations that Crime Intelligence officer Feroz Khan interfered with the work of the dog unit during the July 2021 Aeroton drug bust.

During the operation, police seized more than 700 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of R300 million.

A Hawks officer, identified only as Witness I, testified that Khan effectively hijacked the crime scene, raising concerns about the management of the operation.

Meanwhile, IPID Assistant Director of Investigations Takalani Zelda Maphosho, came under intense cross-examination over her report into the Aeroton drug bust.

The inquiry took apart many flaws in her report.
