PRETORIA - The Madlanga Commission has issued a second statement rejecting businessman Serge Cabonge’s allegations that someone linked to the inquiry attempted to interfere with criminal investigations.
In its latest response, the Commission described Cabonge’s claims as “false, incoherent and not supported by any facts”.
The allegations stem from a phone recording played during former deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya’s bail proceedings at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

In the recording, Cabonge is heard claiming that he once helped the family of a man who “sits in the front at the Madlanga Commission” after the man’s daughter faced charges following a collision with a woman carrying a child.
The Commission denied any direct contact with Cabonge, saying none of its commissioners or evidence leaders had met or spoken to him.
It also rejected claims that anyone had communicated with the businessman on its behalf.
The inquiry urged South Africans to treat Cabonge’s statements with caution as the allegations continue to draw attention.
