Mogotsi fears for his life, says lawyer

JOHANNESBURG - Brown Mogotsi fears for his life and is not comfortable eating while in police custody, according to his attorney Makau William Sekgatja.

The alleged political fixer made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The case was postponed to 25 May. He is facing five charges including defeating the ends of justice and perjury. His arrest comes after he allegedly staged his own assassination attempt in November last year.

He claimed to have escaped unscathed after a hail of bullets hit his car.

“He is not comfortable eating in prison,” Sekgatja told eNCA outside court.

“He has indicated to me that he wants to be moved to the Johannesburg Correctional facility. He was complaining about the food at the police station where he was kept. He has hardly had anything to eat since his arrest on Friday.”

Maintaining that the hit on Mogotsi was not staged, Sekgatja said the incident has left his client scared and fearing for his life.

"The police raid in October and the attempt on his life in November has created in him some sort of paranoia."
