'More than a friend’ | Murdered e-hailing driver described as good man

PRETORIA -  A good man — and more than just a friend.

That’s how a close associate of murdered Pretoria e-hailing driver Isaac Satlat has described him.

Members of e-hailing associations and civil society groups gathered in Pretoria, where three suspects linked to Satlat’s murder appeared in court.

The accused have abandoned their bail applications.

Speaking to eNCA, Bright Njere says he had last seen Satlat on the day of his murder.

“He came to my house, and we were actually planning a Valentine's Day outing,” Njere said.

He says Satlat left his house after accepting a trip around Court Street.

“He said, ‘It’s my last trip, I’m going to make some money, so I can have fuel to go back home’. I asked him to call me when he gets home so we can plan further but I didn’t hear back from him. I only got a call on Thursday to say he was gone,” Njere recalled.

He said the tragedy was difficult to accept as he had known Satlat since he was in Grade 4.

“He used to help me with homework. I struggled with mathematics and he always helped and mentored me. Our relationship grew stronger because we also attended the same church.”

“He was not just a friend but a brother to me. It was painful to see him die like that.”

When the three suspects made an appearance in court, Njere said he had goosebumps and could not believe he was sitting behind the people who murdered his brother.
