New legal bid challenges interdict on impeachment committee

CAPE TOWN - Another legal challenge seeking to lift the interdict on the Impeachment Committee is being heard in the Western Cape High Court on Friday.

uMkhonto weSizwe Party and United Africans Transformation, argue that the authority to intervene in the committee’s work falls exclusively within the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court.

Last month the Western Cape High Court granted President Cyril Ramaphosa an interdict, pending the outcome of his review application.

The president is challenging the Independent Panel’s Phala Phala report.

That judgment is expected between the 2 and 4 September.
